I grew up in Eagle River, Wisconsin, a pastoral small town that was a favorite destination for families from Milwaukee and Chicago in the summers.

As a student, I was blessed with a scholarship to Wisconsin University at Whitewater, Wisconsin. Whitewater was also a gorgeous bucolic town with quiet streets and Victorian homes. During summer breaks I worked two years as a model in a clothing store, and at nights at a restaurant as a waitress, in Eagle River.

I think my wonderful years at the University - in that town with its magnificent surroundings, is what inspired me to promise myself I’d make painting part of my future life. It took several years after graduation that I was able to pursue that dream. As a result of having lived there those college years, I captured the memories of the beauty of the place mentally. I began painting fields and streets, and evolved into what I am today - a landscape painter principally, with a smaller direction toward whimsical works in the style of Fauve.

Living many years in the Washington, D.C. area, my life was enriched artistically in many ways, and I was especially influenced by the Baltimore Museum with its Cone Collection, as well as with the marvelous nineteen museums and galleries of the Smithsonian.

I am now retired from my professional life, having worked as a senior administrative aide in a large Washington, DC law firm - and living with my marvelous husband.

In 2014 I joined the Chula Vista Art Guild and the South Bayfront Art Guild.

I recently completed a three year term with the Cultural Arts Commission, and feel privileged to have assisted the Chula Vista City Council in promoting the arts for the benefit of our community.

Our home, in Chula Vista, California, has a loft with a home studio designed by a talented cabinet maker, and our fascinating view is of Otay Lake and the St. Ysidro Mountains. The hours I spend at my easel are the most favorable hours of my week. As you view my works, I hope my talent shows through to reveal my view of life.

Artist Statement

My experience with oils began when I attended Monterey Art School in California and tutored with several well-known teaching artists in the Carmel area. I continued my art education at Jacksonville University, and I have participated in numerous workshops conducted by Karen Galleher in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Karen's work and inspiration have been an influence on my primary style, which is impressionism. I am drawn to painting the lush, bucolic scenes that I've seen in Italy and France, as well as other countries, and my goal in painting them is to create a sense of emotion and the celebration of color. My paintings are more about color than the interpretation of the scene.

Works of mine have shown in Virginia at Gallery Without Walls, Art in the Workplace, the Fairfax Government Center, River Farm, American Horticultural Society, numerous regional libraries, and the Snyder and Thompson Community Centers in Kingstowne, VA. I was a member of the Springfield Art Guild, the Arts Council of Fairfax County, and I am past President of the Kingstowne Area Artists. A few years ago I moved from Virginia to Chula Vista, CA. I am happily retired in Chula Vista, CA, and enjoying participating in new art venues. I would welcome e-mail or a telephone call regarding my work.
